Introduction to Nol Card Refunds
A Nol card is Dubai’s essential smart card for Metro, buses, and more. In 2026, you may need a refund if you're leaving the city, switching to a new card, or reporting a lost or damaged card.
This guide explains the exact process to recover your balance safely using official RTA channels.
Eligibility & Card Types
Eligible Cards
Registered Silver/Gold cards, Personal Blue cards, and any card linked to an Emirates ID.
Non-Eligible
Unregistered anonymous cards and paper Red Tickets cannot be refunded if lost or stolen.
Check Your Balance First
Before applying, run a balance check. Your refund method changes at the AED 100 mark:

How to Refund Online
The RTA website is the main channel for digital refunds. You will need your 10-digit Tag ID from the back of the card.
Submit Request
Go to 'Refund Nol Card Balance' on rta.ae. Enter Tag ID and registered mobile number.
Provide Bank Details
For higher balances, you must provide IBAN or link an alternate registered Nol card for transfer.
Verification
Receive a reference number via SMS. Cards are usually blocked within 48 hours of approval.
Refund via Nol Pay App
Manage your refund directly from your phone using the Nol Pay App:
- • Select the registered card in your profile.
- • Choose 'Refund Type' (lost, damaged, or expired).
- • Verify identity via SMS OTP.
- • Lost Cards: Block the card immediately to protect the balance.
Station & Cash Refunds
For small balances and tourists leaving the UAE, station-based refunds are the fastest option.
Cash (Under AED 100)
Present your card and Emirates ID/Passport at any Metro station ticket office for an instant cash refund (fee applies).
Balance Transfer
Use a self-service machine or ticket office to transfer your balance to a new registered card. This process is generally free of charge.
Overcharge Disputes
If you believe you were charged incorrectly, submit a dispute via the RTA complaints page or call 800 90 90.
